A Base Jumping Adventure Session at Bell Rock | Arizona Adventure Wedding Inspiration

Wedding days are rad—but who says the fun has to stop after the last dance? Some stories need more than just sunset portraits and pretty details. That’s where adventure sessions come in. Think post-wedding magic with hiking boots, wind-tangled hair, and views that’ll make your heart skip a beat.

Martin and Kayla? They took the idea and ran with it—literally. Their Bell Rock adventure session in Sedona was part epic hike, part emotional slow burn. Just the two of them, newly married, soaking in the red rock views and breathing in the stillness after the chaos of the big day. It was wild, it was personal, and it was everything an Arizona adventure photography experience should be.

What Is an Arizona Adventure Session, Anyway?

For couples who love the outdoors, or just want something a little different than traditional portraits, an adventure session is a way to tell your love story through what lights you up. That could mean hiking to a mountaintop, going horseback riding through the desert, or (in Martin’s case) base jumping off one of Sedona’s famous rock formations.

Adventure sessions are more than just epic photos. They’re a chance to ground your wedding experience in something that’s uniquely you. This Arizona adventure session was exactly that—and the perfect example of what Arizona adventure photography can look like.

Why Bell Rock Is the Perfect Spot for an Arizona Adventure

Located just outside the heart of Sedona, Bell Rock is one of the only safe and accessible base jumping locations in the area. It’s also wildly scenic, surrounded by insanely beautiful red rocks, desert brush, and sunrise views that’ll make you forget what time it is. Whether you’re base jumping like Martin or hiking to the top with your partner for portraits, Bell Rock offers endless possibilities for couples craving an Arizona adventure.

Planning a Post-Wedding Adventure

Martin and Kayla were married two weeks before this session at Sky Ranch Lodge (you can read about their snow-filled Sedona wedding here). But they weren’t done celebrating. Martin, a professional base jumper, wanted to include something that reflected his love for the sport and Kayla.

Base jumping is incredibly weather dependent, and Sedona had been stormy leading up to their planned date. I was able to stay flexible, and we made it happen. We rescheduled the shoot for three days later, and it ended up being the clearest morning we could have asked for.

How the Arizona Adventure Unfolded

We met at sunrise in the parking lot below Bell Rock. Martin and one of his groomsmen (also a jumper) hiked the steep route to the top while we stayed at the base with Kayla. From there, we waited, watching the sun slowly rise and fill the sky with warm light.

Martin’s first jump didn’t quite go as planned; he missed the landing mark. Good thing he packed a second chute. After a second attempt and another narrow miss, we decided to switch to a different landing location with more clearance.

On the third try, everything clicked. Martin landed perfectly, right in front of Kayla. She ran to him with the kind of joy that makes your heart skip a beat. It’s the moment they’d been hoping for, and my favorite image from the day. The parachute floating behind them, the energy between them, it was everything.

Tips for Planning Your Own Arizona Adventure Session

  1. Choose a location that’s meaningful and accessible. Bell Rock was perfect for Martin and Kayla because it was both scenic and base-jump-friendly. Whether it’s a national park, a favorite trail, or a spot you’ve always wanted to visit, let it be true to you.
  2. Keep your schedule flexible. The weather in Arizona (especially in the spring and summer) can be unpredictable. Leaving space to shift plans means less stress and safer adventures.
  3. Don’t feel boxed in by tradition. Your Arizona wedding doesn’t have to end with the sparkler exit. This Arizona adventure is proof that celebrating can take on any form, especially if it includes hiking boots and parachutes.
  4. Bring your wedding attire. There’s something so fun about mixing formalwear with rugged landscapes. Martin even changed into his wedding suit at the top of Bell Rock!
  5. Work with a photographer who understands the logistics. Adventure wedding photography—and specifically Arizona adventure photography—isn’t your average shoot. From timing to location safety to lighting conditions, you’ll want someone who’s done this before.

Why This Arizona Adventure Meant So Much

Martin and Kayla’s Arizona adventure wasn’t about the jump, it was about what it represented. Trust. Partnership. Doing life the way they want to. And that’s exactly what an adventure session can capture.
